About Us

Dr Jim Watts talking about SRS

Glenhope is a family business that has developed over 20 years in Armidale, NSW. ‘The aim over this time was to produce our own products and to have control over the whole process of the design and production.

It has been a joy and a privilege to witness the development of our fleece to the superior quality it is today. The softness of our fibre is due to the years of selective breeding and careful selection of each fleece with only the softest fleeces making it into the final bales to produce the yarns for the GlenhopeCo blankets showing no evidence of primary fibre. A most gratifying achievement.

GLENHOPE products are grown, designed and made in Australia. All the wool has been exclusively grown on our farm The farm is run on sustainable farming practices and we adhere to the ethical care of our animals

The owners Bronwyn and David Mitchell both grew up on sheep/cattle properties and have many years of animal and husbandry experience. Bron’s medical background has been invaluable in managing the herd.

David has been an SRS® Breeding Advisor committed to assisting breeders accelerate their breeding programmes by selection, classing and skin testing of animals and traveled with Jim through Europe visiting alpaca studs.

Welcome to Glenhope Alpacas

Glenhope is situated on 60 hectares of land, 4 kms from Armidale in Northern NSW, Australia. With a combination of native and improved pastures, mild summers and cool winters the conditions are perfect for breeding alpacas. On our property we use sustainable farming practices and each year we fatten about 40 angus weaners for market.
Over the years we have traveled extensively looking at animals and keeping up to date with cutting edge breeding technologies.

The relationships we have developed with like minded breeders in Australia and overseas are invaluable and we hope to continue developing this network of people.

David together with Dr Jim Watts is committed to teaching and assisting breeders in Australia and other countries become involved in using the SRS® breeding system designed by Jim following many years of research at the C.S.I.R.O. Workshops have been held in Germany, Northern and Southern Germany, Italy and the United kingdom.

Bron and David welcome inquiries from new and established breeders wanting to explore the possibility of breeding alpaca for the first time or for breeders wanting to gain an understanding of the advanced breeding techniques used at Glenhope using this proven scientific system.
