The staff at Adagio mill commented of the wonderful softness of the yarn. You can see the natural lustre of the wool on the rollers.
We have some wonderful local knitters lined up ready to create their magic.
Glenhope Alpacas had a very successful show over the long weekend in June. Although we only entered 4 animals and 3 fleeces we came away with the Supreme Champion who was the Intermediate male champion, Adult champion male and 2 Reserve champions in the fleece classes.
Glenhope Griffin – Supreme & Intermediate male champion
Glenhope Franco – Adult champion male
Glenhope Exquisite – 18 – 30 months fleece – Reserve champion
Glenhope Cyrah – 48 – 60 months fleece – Reserve champion
Glenhope had a very successful Royal Eater show entering 14 fleeces and receiving 11 ribbions including 2 Championships for age and one overall championship for colour. The majority of the animals were sired by Suncloud Talahasi from Western Australia who has injected excellent character into the fleeces.
Subsequent classing of the animals by Dr Jim Watts has identified a number of younger males that could be classed as impact males for the future.
Glenhope had an excellent show in both the animal and fleece classes. We entered four males in the halter classes and received 3 firsts, a second, a reserve champion, 2 champions and the supreme champion with Glenhope Hugo.
In the fleece section we entered seven fleeces and received 5 firsts and a second with overall reserve champion of the show. Age groups didn’t receive championships only an overall supreme and reserve. Two of our fleeces were in this final line up of three fleeces.
Overall an excellent show.
Glenhope is situated on 60 hectares of land, 4 kms from Armidale in Northern NSW, Australia. With a combination of native and improved pastures, mild summers and cool winters the conditions are perfect for breeding alpacas. On our property we use sustainable farming practices and each year we fatten about 40 angus weaners for market.
Over the years we have traveled extensively looking at animals and keeping up to date with cutting edge breeding technologies.
The relationships we have developed with like minded breeders in Australia and overseas are invaluable and we hope to continue developing this network of people.
David together with Dr Jim Watts is committed to teaching and assisting breeders in Australia and other countries become involved in using the SRS® breeding system designed by Jim following many years of research at the C.S.I.R.O. Workshops have been held in Germany, Northern and Southern Germany, Italy and the United kingdom.
Bron and David welcome inquiries from new and established breeders wanting to explore the possibility of breeding alpaca for the first time or for breeders wanting to gain an understanding of the advanced breeding techniques used at Glenhope using this proven scientific system.
